Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S.

Godzilla keeps on stomping, even after 50 years. My question: Why do people in Japan continue rebuilding the exact same buildings for Godzilla to smash every 2 years? How about varying the architecture a bit, maybe it will confuse Godzilla and he'll be shocked out of his ritualistic behavior.

Running down the plot of a Godzilla movie is a bit like giving a recipe for ice. Godzilla starts heading to Tokyo and some varying congregation of monsters and the Japanese army attempt to kill him.

Since 'Zilla became a nominal hero in the '70s it's at least interesting trying to figure out whom to root for as the buildings crumble. Do you root for Godzilla himself or the monsters who, while trying to stop Godzilla from crushing buildings, crush their fair share of buildings too. This time the tiny twin girls from Infant Island warn that the use of Godzilla bones in the ultimate Japanese weapon - Mecha-Godzilla - has angered both Godzilla and Mothra, (I think) and if someone doesn't do something to stop the madness, a whole lot of buildings are going to be crushed.

Pick your pony and watch buildings get crushed.

There's poetic beauty in the surrealistic crushing of fake-Tokyo, and the miniatures look marginally better with each Godzilla outing. Tokyo S.O.S. jam-packs the place with crushings, cute Mothras, Mothra Larvae and social messages for those willing to decode the cues in the script. The Sewer just likes to see Tokyo crushed every few years, not because the Sewer dislikes Tokyo - the Sewer loves Tokyo - but it's what the Sewer has watched since it was a wee little Sewer.

So bring on another round, of drinks and crushings I guess, (since the Sewer is much older now) and let's all enjoy watching Godzilla fight many of the same monsters he's been fighting for over five decades while crushing the same damn buildings one more time.

As familiar as a rainbow to Tokyo-ites.
Mothra adds a nice psychedelic touch to proceedings.
Godzilla tells Mecha-Godzilla to 'own it'.
