Scary Movie 4
The Scary Movie franchise, never a winner to begin with, just gets worse and worse. It's really just a testament to the ripples still emanating from Airplane! Hopefully, the production costs for Scary Movies will eventually eclipse box-office grosses, but when yours truly almost plunked down five bucks to OWN a copy of this crap, well I guess the horror will never end.
This fourth outing melds the plots of The Grudge, Spielberg's War Of The Worlds, Saw and The Village. Ahh, it was nice when Abrahams/ Zucker comedies had plots all their own, and proceeded to make hash of genre tropes from dozens of other movies. Now they splice together just a few films from nearly whole cloth and yet can only come up with enough jokes to sustain about 40 minutes.
And most of these jokes aren't even funny, though you can't fault the enthusiasm of the performers. The Sewer was lured in (first by the promise that this was the UNRATED version of said film) by scenes of Shaq and Dr. Phil mocking themselves. While satisfying, it just weren't enough.
The only other scene of note is a lengthy one featuring Carmen Electra in a teddy loudly relieving herself in a church. Yes, despite the lowliness of that set-up, it's the best thing in the movie. Otherwise you're left with countless iterations of people getting hit in the face with various objects.
The UNRATED and EXTENDED DVD sports a slew of extras, but really, it's only worth it if you're bedridden, and you might as well just sleep. Hell, if you're as healthy as a horse, you're still better off sleeping.
